The blossom here is on the mountain, along the river, and around the bridge. Kyoto prefecture's tourism federation describes cherry trees from Nakanoshima park, along the embankment of the Oi river, through Kameyama park behind Tenryuji temple, and up Arashiyama itself. It is not a park with a boundary and a gate. It is a whole district that happens to be full of them, and there is no point at which you can say you have arrived.

The view everyone knows is from the Togetsukyo bridge. You look across the water at the mountain.

From there the elements stack vertically: the water first, then the trees on the far bank, then the slope rising behind them with more blossom scattered up it.

The trees on the mountain are largely yama-zakura, wild cherry, which means the colour is not uniform. Pale flower, reddish new leaf and the dark green of evergreens come in patches, in whatever proportion the seedlings decided among themselves over the centuries. Nothing about it looks planted, because in the main it was not. On the timing the two official bodies disagree: the prefecture gives late March into early April, the city gives early April.
