The park's cherry trees run on into a university. Kochi prefecture describes Kagamino Park as holding many kinds of cherry, Somei-yoshino and double-flowered varieties among them, with a peak from late March into the middle of April. Kami city adds that the cherry trees of the neighbouring Kochi University of Technology can be enjoyed as part of the same walk, which is an unusual thing for a municipality to point out.

So the blossom does not stop where the park does.

A university campus is not somewhere people usually plan to go for hanami.

Here you simply keep walking and find yourself among the trees on university land, with lecture buildings instead of teahouses and students going to seminars through the same blossom. A designated famous site and an ordinary working place have ended up continuous with one another, and nothing marks the join. Lanterns are lit through the evenings of the season. Because a good range of varieties has been planted rather than a single clone, the flowering stretches to something like three weeks, which is long by the standards of a Somei-yoshino site and means the park is worth checking even after the news has said the season is over.
